Healthy Foods to Help You Lose Weight

Losing weight could be traumatizing for people who keep on trying different ways on how to lose weight but still they could not get the results they ever wanted. But one thing that they might forget when doing this is to make some changes in their daily diet. This is the most effective way when losing weight in the most ideal manner. So, if you are one of them, then you should start eating these foods to help you lose weight.

1. Eat Plenty of Fruits

Maybe you should try being a "fruitarian." Fruits are totally healthy because they don't have those bad cholesterol that you usually consume everyday like when eating pizza, spaghetti, bacon, cheese, hamburgers and many other unhealthy foods that your taste bud loves. So, it's time to make a change. Once you're hungry, why not fill in your stomach with your favorite fruit or any fruit that you find tasty. Most of the time, you like eating sweet foods during snack time. So, try eating some fruits during this time so that your stomach will not get hungry. And during meals, try to eat some fruits before eating your entire meal. This way, you tend to eat less.

 2. Try brown rice as your main source of carbohydrates.

Many are complaining about too many carbohydrates in their bodies. So, instead of eating lots of bread, pizza, pasta and other unhealthy foods with plenty of carbohydrates; why not stick to brown rice. You may not feel like eating to this at first; but with a conditioned mind you will be used to it. Brown rice is rich in fiber, thus you will have a better digestion. Another good thing about this kind of rice is that you will eat lesser in amount because you will not have too much appetite when eating. So, if you will be hungry after few hours; try eating some biscuits and drink plenty of water or fruit juice.

 3. Eat more fish than meat.

When preparing food for your meal, try concentrating on making a dish from fish. You can make a research on how to cook it well to make it more delicious. You can cook it in different ways so that you will not find it boring to eat. Use your creativity too so that it will appear more delicious to your eyes. You can also add some healthy vegetables to make some variations in taste. Add some spices and flavors to make your dish perfect. Actually, fish is very healthy especially those with high levels of Omega 3 because there are healthy fats which are very good for your heart, eyes, brain and mood.

So if you are really sincere and very much determined in losing weight, then try eating these foods to help you lose weight. Just try to experiment it for a month then check the results. If you find things are working well, then why not make it a lifestyle to maintain a healthy and a nice looking body. Healthy foods are not only for losing weight, they are also important to make a longer and more meaningful life. So, there's no reason for you not to like them.

Why Breakfast Is NOT the Most Important Meal of the Day

Healthy Breakfast Tips
Starting your day with processed foods or foods high in sugar and carbs is one of the worst mistakes you can make when it comes to breakfast. Many of the foods that are considered to be "part of a healthy breakfast," will actually do more harm than good to your body. Food items such as bagels and cereal can aid in the production of excess body fat and obesity related diseases. If you are trying to eat a healthier breakfast, foods high in healthy fats, such as avocados, raw nuts, and olive and coconut oils are a good place to start. Eating healthy fats for breakfast and omitting excess carbs will leave you fuller for longer and help with overall health and fat loss. Try grass fed meats or lightly cooked organic eggs for protein as well!
Personally, I get up at 430am and start seeing patients at 7am. Breakfast is at 5:15am. If I eat a typical carb-fest breakfast; cereal, toast, oatmeal, I will have to schedule a short break an hour or so into my shift (8:30am) just to refuel. As a chiropractor, I need the energy and the carbs just don't last. Before becoming a chiropractor, working at a desk and being less active, I didn't run out of energy so much as I felt sleepy. I know you know what I am talking about! I no longer eat carbs in the morning. None. All protein and fat, and my energy stores last much longer. No longer do I need to take a break between patients. It isn't uncommon for me to wait until 11am before I even feel the least bit hungry. That is 6 hours without food and I still feel strong.
Note: Increasing your protein and healthy fat intake while failing to reduce your carbohydrate intake will not give you the benefits of a proper healthy breakfast. If you are upping the fat, ensure that you are also lowering the carbs for optimal health benefits!
To Eat Breakfast or Not to Eat Breakfast?
We have been taught that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for years, yet more recent research has shown that eating breakfast can actually harm your ability to lose weight and hinder your ability to reach your optimal health. Your cortisol (stress hormone) levels peak in the morning and eating breakfast first thing when you wake up coincides with this peak causing your insulin levels to spike. When your insulin levels rise, your blood sugar levels drop quickly leaving you hungry again soon after. Skipping breakfast altogether may in fact help you lose fat and control cravings and overall hunger throughout the day.
Note: Simply cutting breakfast out of your daily routine won't do the trick, it needs to be phased out over several weeks and the process can be uncomfortable and will take some time... perseverance and dedication are needed!
The Proper Way to Non-Breakfast:
This process of phasing out breakfast is actually part of an eating routine known as "scheduled eating" or "intermittent fasting". These terms refer to making large caloric reductions to your diet, or only eating within a scheduled period of time -usually between a window of 6-8 hours per day while fasting the other 16-18 hours. This method can help your body reach fat-burning mode (when your hunger decreases and junk food cravings nearly disappear... sounds magical, doesn't it?). In order to safely and successfully implement scheduled eating; you must make changes step by step, which will take several weeks. Here are some tips to get you started:
  • Don't eat 3 hours prior to sleeping; i.e.: if you go to bed at 10pm, don't eat after 7pm; this kick starts the fasting process. Do this for a few days before moving on to the next item.
  • Wait as long as you can after waking up before eating breakfast and continuously increase that time by 15 - 30 minutes a day. After a few weeks, you will be having your first meal at lunchtime
  • Trying scheduled eating while maintaining a proper diet low in carbs is essential to its effectiveness. If you are eating improper foods, you will not see the expected benefits.
  • Exercising in fasting mode can have even more added benefits
  • Listen to your body, don't wait so long to eat that your energy levels are at 0, if you feel you need to eat, eat!
Note: Intermittent fasting/scheduled eating is not recommended if you are pregnant, have diabetes, and/or are hypoglycemic.
If you want to boost your health and are already eating a healthy diet, I suggest you give this method a try! Intermittent fasting can lead you to fat-burning mode and render your need for self-discipline around food completely unnecessary - your body will do it for you. If you decide this method isn't for you, try a breakfast high in healthy fats and proteins and low carbohydrates.
As always, please use common sense before making major changes in your diet. Speak with your health professional first.

Eating Healthy: A Guide to Nutritious Foods

You wanted to start eating healthy so you found the newest fad diet. Was it the low carb diet? How about the low fat? Or maybe it was low cholesterol and less sodium?
You followed along diligently for a whole two weeks and then quit because the results were not there... Most of the time these fad diets are overly complex and not realistic. That's why I'm going to explain here how nutrition can be made simple by eating the right foods.
When all said and done, nutrition really isn't that complicated. It all comes down to eating natural, whole foods. This means anything that is not highly processed, such as: white breads, cakes, cereals, chips, candy, or deserts.
But that takes away all the fun!
Yes it does, but unfortunately none of those foods mentioned above are going to give you any benefits towards fueling your body. You will likely get a nice rush from the sugar and then you'll experience that all-too-familiar crash.
If you really want to eat healthy and have proper nutrition you have to stick to fresh fruits and vegetables: apples, oranges, berries, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, avocados, etc. The list goes on and on, and you can easily pick a variety in any produce section at your local market.
These foods should be your "core" food group. In other words, all meals should be based around the fruits and vegetables.
You should also include a source of high quality protein. Some great choices are eggs, fish, chicken, or lean meat such as a top sirloin steak. Combine these with your veggies and you'll start to see great improvements in your health and physique.
If you've noticed, I haven't included any real source of carbohydrates just yet. That doesn't mean that they are bad, but for those who are serious about losing weight, the main carbohydrates should come from the fruits and vegetables.
That being said, there are great options for healthy carbohydrates that aren't going to expand your waistline. For best results stick to whole grains, such as Ezekiel bread, steel cut oatmeal, or even fresh popcorn.
Some other great sources of good carbohydrates include: legumes, quinoa, and brown rice. These carbohydrates are especially useful if you plan on exercising at later parts of the day, as they are a slower digesting than fruits.
Last but not least are the healthy fats. Many people think that by avoiding fats they will lose weight; however, avoiding the wrong fats will actually hinder your weight loss efforts.
Some examples of healthy fats include, avocado, almond butter, and olive oil. Something these all have in common? They are monounsaturated fats and help stimulate weight loss and lower bad cholesterol.
By mixing up the various foods you can find hundreds of different tasty meals that will not only help you achieve your fitness goals but help you feel healthier all around. Starting with your core foods of fruits and vegetables, add a source of protein, a quality carbohydrate and a source of healthy fats.
If you can stick to this on a consistent basis, a bowl of ice cream or cookie every once in awhile isn't going to kill you. It's still possible to enjoy the sweet things in life.
Stick to the basics, buy whole foods, and you'll be eating healthy in no time.

The Science Behind Why Papaya is Such a Healthy Food

As far as health foods go, papaya is one that receives a lot of press. This fruit, which grows abundantly in tropical places, is known as a super food because of the numerous health benefits nutrients that are found in it provide. As well as vitamins, papaya contains antioxidants and proteolytic enzymes which are great for your body, but just how do these parts of the papaya's make up work inside you to deliver such profound benefits?
Here we take a look at the science behind the papaya and its nutritional value:

Antioxidants - A Key Part in Preventing Cellular Aging

Many people mistakenly think that antioxidants basically remove toxins from the body, perhaps because the word sounds a bit like 'anti toxin'. However, what antioxidants actually do is prevent cells from oxidizing. When cells oxidize, nasty bi-products are produced, which are known as free radicals. Free radicals attack cells, and are believed to be the main cause of aging - both in terms of physical appearance and overall health and cell regeneration. Eating foods rich in antioxidants like the papaya prevents this process, which means that it conversely promotes healthy cell repair and can keep you looking and feeling young. There is a lot of pseudo science around about what antioxidants are and how they work, but the truth is that they actually prevent natural harmful elements from attacking cells, rather than anything else.

Proteolytic Enzymes - Optimizing Your Protein Digestion

Part of a healthy diet is eating proteins, and for a lot of people these will come from sources like meat and fish. Proteins are made of chains of what are called amino acids, which are held together by links called peptide bonds.
The configuration of amino acids in a protein chain are what give it its characteristics, for instance determining that a cell will be a muscle cell rather than a brain cell, an eye cell, a blood cell and so on. When you eat protein, the body has to break the peptide bonds to reduce the food to the base amino acids, and then rebuild them into the kind of protein it needs. This means that the amino acids in that chicken breast you ate can be turned into whatever kind of cells your body needs to build for you to grow, heal or maintain your body.
Proteolytic enzymes are the enzymes that do the work of breaking down the proteins in your digestive system. Most people have inefficient digestion, and some foods, like red meats, are hard to digest anyway. By adding more proteolytic enzymes to your diet, you have more resources working on breaking down foods, meaning your digestion will become more efficient. This prevents gas and bloating, and means you get the best nutritional benefit from what you eat.
Papaya also contains very powerful proteolytic enzymes called like chymopapain, and these, when eaten or taken as a supplement, will aid digestion. Many people find that adding papaya to their diet in natural or supplemental form has a strong impact on their digestive efficiency, meaning they feel healthier and don't suffer from gastrointestinal problems like bloating or gas.
